Agility

Dalmatians excel at Agility.  For those of you who don’t know, Agility is a timed event with obstacles the dogs perform with commands from their handlers.

Tracking

A tracking dog works by putting their nose to the ground and following a trail of human scent. They can track anything from lost articles, a lost child, or even a person trapped in a collapsed building

Scent Work

Dogs have a sense of smell that’s between 10,000 and 100,000 times more acute than ours!  Neither the dog nor handler knows where the target odor is hidden. The handler has to rely on the dog, and follow the dog’s nose to success. The sport of Scent Work is based on the work of professional detection dogs (such as drug dogs), employed by humans to detect a wide variety of scents and substances.

Fast Cat

A 100-yard dash Coursing Ability Test where a dog’s time is converted to miles per hour.

Barn Hunt

Barn Hunt is based on the traditional roles of many breeds in ridding farms, barns, crop storage areas, and homes of destructive vermin.

Conformation

The official term for dog shows is conformation — as in, the act of conforming or producing conformity. While a dog show may look like a beauty pageant, it’s not. Dogs are not being compared to each other; they’re being measured by how closely they conform to the standard of their particular breed. Why? Because the closer a dog’s appearance is to the breed’s standard, the better that dog’s ability will be to produce puppies that meet the standard.
